Birdhouse The Beginning with Justin Figueroa, Shaun Grégoire, Willy Santos, Jean Postec, Jon Dickson, Steve Nesser
The last Birdhouse skateboard video was released in 1998 ,The end , and it was a big blow in the skateboard world. Today the brand comes back with The Beginning. Less pros and more amateurs but still many ramp riders.A shitty introduction music, the riders' presentation, some tricks with 2 guys on a big ramp installed for the occasion in the middle of the desert.
It's a bit déja vu , the ramp in the desert : One step Beyond from Adio.
There is also a fake mega ramp ( as bob's one) and é minutes of falls.
A not really innovative introduction compared to the Fully Flared.
The first one to go is Justin Figueroa, we've been seiing him in the mags for a few months b ut nothing outstanding. Some classic tricks on rail (5-0 , tail….) but he's quite well rounded on his deck. A few nice camera shots and a nollie flip front 4 flat 4.
Another 360 shove-it and big spin front addict. (Figueroa on the left)
Nollie heel nose slide big spin in line and a curious big spin front revert to fakie. Many spots in Washington . He concludes with a wonderful tail slide flip out . A beautiful revelation !
He's been on the circuit for a while , Brian Summer still enjoys the heelflips and flips back so he does many everywhere. A very beautiful switch 180 front grind nollie back at SF ,
Many lines and an appearance of Andre Genovesi and Ernie Torres not forgetting a cool music. Nothing extraordinary about that part but still quite entertaining.
Another unkwnown is Randy Ploesser. A regular that rides curious spots with a curious style. He's a big fan of curves and tilted plans. He still manages to be very good in curb with some bluntslide to back tail and bluntslide flip out in last trick.
In the middle of his part, the guy pays a fakie flip over 7 stairs , a bit old school, isn't it ?
Some killer music for a rider that has been riding for Birdhouse for years : Willy Santos.
A nice way to approach the spots with a big spin pivot big spin out on a curve.
On a curb, half cab nose slide big spin wheeling and in wheeling a fakie big spin wheeling sex change…not forgetting that he lands a feet on the wall every two seconds. original , isn't it ?! He dedicated this part to his father .
The frenchy of the team is Jean Postec : we can see he succeeded well by joining such a team. He starts with a superb line but very badly filmed and then continues with a few tricks and it's already over after 41 seconds.
After jean comes the Skateboard legend aka Tony Hawk : owner, founder and rider of Birdhouse.
A nice 360 back boardslide revert and a shitload of amazing combinations of 360 to boardslide in front back, fakie, alley oop, well we see he feels comfortable in a ramp. A big 3.6 back on Bob's mega and a 360 flip without the hands on the channel to conclude. I liked it
Youth, courage and commitment , here is what comes to my mind when we talk about David Loy. A kid that sometimes lacks of pop but who has incredible confidence in curve for such a young age and who jumps on big rails.
Many 5-0 and 360 front and as a whole, a part far from being extraordinary.
- The first one is Nate lacoste, his part is short but we understand he has a super style when we see his flip front ninja. I like his style.
- The second one is none other than the boss' son : Riley Hawk who has a much better style than his father in street ( not too hard) a nice fakie big spin flip on a 3 flat 3 and a switch big spin front ,it's hard to stop a trend.
- The third one is Jon Dickson that has a very nicely filmed part , especially the back smith in pool and the flip back to switch frontside crooked. A good pop and two amazing tricks for such a discreet amateur : Big spin heel flip boardslide on rail and Hard flip 14 stairs.
Another one that lands big spin everywhere ,an incredible ease for the 270 front to back lip but a horrible style. He's strong, that's undeniable ,but it's ugly.

The team's padre is Jeremy Klein , that went shooting his part in japan. We see drops , quite crazy grinds and some too sketchy spots with some good psychedelic music.
Another amateur, Sean Eaton, has a boring part with heelflips everywhere besides a few tricks frontside feeble 360 shove-it and big flip 4 blocs.
Matt ball is a Birdhouse pro rider and we can say he's lazy skateboard wise.
Some nice 3.6 flips and nice bluntslides but nothing outstanding.
A very boring music, a bit like Matt Ball.
A simple 5-0 on a square rail in last trick.
The last part logically goes to the one who is the most implicated into the team, Steve Nesser . Some images from him in Israël or Peru.
A very beautiful 3.6 back on the red wave and a wonderful half cab flip to fakie.
Too many grinds and too few switches as a whole. 1/ 3 of the part already seen in sequences in the mags.
The last trick of the video is his grind on Thrasher's cover
Video running time : 49 min
If that video is only the "beginning", i'm hardly waiting for the next one as I was a bit disappointed with that one. Let's not forget that this video is being released right after the Fully Flared wich is more than a revolution.
Let's also note that the parts of Shaun Grégoire, Willy Santos , Jon Dickson and Steve Nesser are really good.
Too bad Jean and Shaun White didn't offered us more shown. (we were waiting for a 900 from the kid :-) )
